Biography
One-of-a-kind Art-Rock trio that blends Post-Punk, Funk Rock and Electro, with the guarantee of a Zappa-like and genre transcending live performance.
Dada’s Troost are an Art-Rock trio from the Netherlands, founded in 2013 by bass player extraordinaire Pieter van den Berkmortel. Initially, lyrics were mostly in Dutch, stuffed with social satire and sarcastic views on the contemporary Western world. Due to the bass-oriented compositions, with the addition of noise guitar riffs, the band was soon called “the Dutch Primus”; a compliment. The band's third album “De Staat van het Avondland” (2019) marked the next step in terms of musical deepening and production. The more alternative rock oriented album was well received by magazines such as Aardschok (NL) and Rock Tribune (BE). By then, the band played over 60 shows in clubs, festivals, and supported bands like Prong (US). Unluckily, the band was not able to promote the album full force because of the lockdowns.
During that period Pieter started writing about personal struggles like as loss, addiction, and inter-human difficulties. The lyrics were now in English, the music became darker, more melodic, melancholic, but still contained its distinctive bass lines. The band started experimenting with Electro and instruments such as brass and mellotron, discarding the constraint that a band should comply to a certain genre.
December 2022 Dada's Troost signed in at Amsterdam based Indie label AudioMazed. During the first half of 2023 three singles were released in the run-up to their new album "Becky Stage Ladder" which was released in May 2024. The single "Visit From A Friend" was well by the international press and even peaked at position 33 in the Dutch Indie Charts.
