Wat als Les Claypool niet in Richmond geboren was, maar gewoon hier om de hoek in Helliemund? Met een lokale Larry en een topische Tim erbij ? Dada’s Troost mag dan niet in de Californische zon gegaard zijn, maar de gestoorde funk die we kennen van Primus is ook aan deze kant van de oceaan in goede handen. In tegenstelling tot Claypool’s hoge, deels gezongen vocalen bedient zanger/bassist Pieter zich van een meer ingetogen, declamerende stijl. De onderwerpen gaan alle kanten op, veelal ogenschijnlijk uit het leven gegrepen maar dan zo verpakt dat ze een onwerkelijk tintje krijgen. En allemaal in het Nederlands, zodat ze uitstekend te volgen zijn. Instrumentaal gezien zijn de drie heren afzonderlijk al meesterlijk, maar de combinatie tilt alles vervolgens nog naar een hoger plan. Retestrakke drumpartijen, baslijntjes waar ongeveer 28 vingers voor nodig zijn en heerlijk neurotische, dissonante gitaarlicks – alles uitstekend in balans met een duidelijke eigen plaats in de composities. Voor eenieder die Primus kent en liefheeft een aanrader, voor ieder ander een mooi kijkje in een van de meest funky niches die de muzikale scene te bieden heeft.
